News Roundup: Star Wars, Deadpool, Arrow, and More!

Sometimes there are just too many awesome and interesting things going on during the week, and we can’t comment on all of them. This is one of those times, and we have to hit you with a barrage of links to get ourselves and you all caught up.

Judging by the fact that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken the box office, I’ll assume you’ve seen the movie and have some questions. /Film has answers to 26 questions.

Deadpool has a pretty entertaining Christmas list.

Vixen appears to be on her way to live action, she’ll be joining the cast of Arrow. She’ll be played by the same actress that voiced her, Megalyn Echikunwoke.

Halo Link

This Halo/Legend of Zelda mashup cosplay is incredible, Kotaku has a small blurb on it.

Project X Zone 2 just looks crazier and crazier.

And CBR thinks there is a possibility that Assassin’s Creed will have a trailer attached to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Here it is, the first look at Captain America: Civil War. This is the teaser that premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

So much to digest! Look at the teams! First look at Black Panther! Bucky and Steve side by side! Tony Stark’s Bleeding Edge armor and he’s working with the government? And where is Spider-Man?

ATLBSSV2-PG-07-47967

CBR has a preview of the new Avatar: The Last Airbender Smoke and Shadow book coming.

Daredevil has a great little teaser for either Jessica Jones or Luke Cage’s appearance in Daredevil season 2. Apparently True Detective still has a shot at season 3, despite season 2 being so polarizing, and largely disliked.

The Ant-Man gag reel is mainly Paul Rudd dancing, but what’s wrong with that?

I wouldn’t recommend watching this if you’re a big fan of episodes I, II, and III or the special editions.

BD Wong does a little bit of Hugo Strange teasing.

ICYMI: NINTENDO DIRECT 11-12-2015

As Black Friday approaches, so do big video game releases for the holidays. While Fallout 4, Call of Duty Black Ops III, Starcraft Legacy of the Void, and Rise of the Tomb Raider are all incredible drops, Nintendo has been lying in wait to drop big announcement after big announcement. Today’s Nintendo Direct was an absolute explosion of information and if you missed it, you can check it out right here in full.

Have you seen it? Good, because here’s some of the highlights from a tightly packed broadcast.

30th Anniversary of Zelda Goodness

twilight-princess-bundle-640x360

Zelda Twilight Princess HD was a big rumor going around a few weeks back and Nintendo confirmed it, alongside a Wolf Link Amiibo. Zelda Wii U was also slightly teased, and Triforce Heroes was given a new spotlight with an upcoming update. More likely than not, more Zelda news will be announced as the year goes on.

DLC & Amiibo in Full Effect

The full-blown release for Fire Emblem Fates is set in motion: set with two versions (Pokemon style), and a third version that resolves both stories. New amiibos are on the way for Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros, and even Mega Man! Upcoming Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, Fire Emblem, Zelda: Triforce Heroes, and Animal Crossing DLC was announced as well.

2016 Hits are on the Way

Overall, 2015 was a learning year for Nintendo. Most of the titles in news were updates and DLC packages. Super Mario Maker and Splatoon were big successes, but that leaves a lot of empty space in Nintendo’s overall release schedule. However, the next Legend of Zelda was confirmed for 2016 and for Wii U and not the upcoming system, Star Fox Zero was presented with gameplay and is confirmed for 2016, and we are even getting Pokken Tournament early in 2016. In addition, independent titles such as Mighty No. 9, Fast Racing NEOTypoman looked promising, even with little showtime during the direct.

…..CLOUD?!?!?!?

Think you know Nintendo and Sakurai? Think again! Probably the single biggest reveal since Snake in Brawl and Mega Man in Smash 4, Cloud joins the fight with a Midgar stage alongside him. He’s a heavy sword wielder (like Ike), but uses his Limit, Sword Arts, and increases his moves in match (maybe some use of Materia ala Shulk). The stage is incredible, featuring mainstay summons such as Ramuh, Ifrit, and Bahamaut. Although no release date has been set, it’s hard to not get excited by not only Cloud, but by the possibility of new fighters who are seldom seen on Nintendo systems (Cloud appeared as a summon in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the Game Boy Advance, and also in Final Fantasy Theatrhythm).

News Roundup: Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Batman, Star Wars, and more!

Sometimes there are just too many awesome and interesting things going on during the week, and we can’t comment on all of them. This is one of those times, and we have to hit you with a barrage of links to get ourselves and you all caught up.

The X-Men: Apocalypse trailer will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Batman: Bad Blood has a pretty awesome trailer out.

Suicide Squad is pretty much confirmed to be PG-13.

The Death Note adaptation seems to have found it’s female lead according to CBR.

Lawrence Kasdan, who has been a staple of Star Wars for a bit now is done with the franchise after the solo Han Solo movie says /Film.

James Gunn apparently knows exactly what Groot is saying in Guardians of the Galaxy.

He did a whole Q&A that you can find on his twitter.

Why Blizzard’s Overwatch Entering Closed Beta is so Important.

Blizzard has made some of the most iconic games in PC gaming over the years. The original Starcraft is considered by many the greatest PC game of all time, World of Warcraft continues to be the juggernaut of MMORPGs, and they even have a movie coming out based on their original property of Warcraft. They’ve made a leap into the MOBA genre now with Heroes of the Storm, even though it’s key to remember that the original DotA used the Warcraft III engine and was actually a custom map. So why is Blizzard’s Overwatch so important? It’s an FPS game by Blizzard.

For anyone who dislikes how Blizzard updates/balances/reworks their games, you’re simply taking for granted the fact that they actually receive updates. For example, right now I would make the argument that CS:GO is the biggest FPS game in the world. And yet it continues to have bugs, complaints, and a comparatively small prize pool. Blizzard develops their games from the ground up and at least attempts to listen to the population and pros of the game of how to keep things in check and continue to help the game grow. So that in turn gives a better chance of this game being competitively viable should that be what the community wants from Blizzard.

Valve on the other hand, only cares about DotA 2. Recently CS:GO may have gotten some much needed updates like hitbox fixes, peeking, and other great things, but it simply should not have taken this long for such a popular game, but what’s the alternative for a high level competitive first person shooter? Yes, there are the Call of Duty games, but if you’re strictly a PC FPS player like myself, those games seem to be more for consoles and aren’t as appealing. There really isn’t a wide variety. So Valve doesn’t feel the need to update a game that clearly has some issues with netcode and things of that nature, because there is no competition to push them to do so.

So that brings us back to Overwatch. If Overwatch totally fails, it won’t force any of the other games/developers to up or improve their game, they’ll simply be satisfied with what’s going on, because they won’t find anyone leaving for the competition. Competition from other games forces developers and publishers to be on the top of their game and really actually try to improve their product, and that is something that has been lacking in terms of PC FPS games.

Aside from the fact that Overwatch could potentially create competition for other games, let’s just talk about how this game is a little different. The main thing most people are talking about is the special skill sets each character gets, something most people consider the little bit of MOBA stirred into the Overwatch cocktail.

The abilities of the hero, Widowmaker.
The abilities of the hero, Widowmaker.

Many will be reminded of Team Fortress 2 and with good reason, the similarities are pretty obvious if you’ve played TF2. And yes, Overwatch is a different game from CS:GO just simply by the sci-fi nature of the game versus CS:GO’s more grounded arena, but it is still an FPS, and in a lot of ways instead of grenades you simply have different skills. The core of an FPS is aim, positioning, and picking smart fights, and I’m certain that core is in tact in Overwatch.

At the end of the day, whether or not I enjoy Blizzard’s Overwatch, I want it to succeed, because I want it to push other games to be even better and you should too.

News Roundup: Jessica Jones, Daredevil, The Flash, Smash 4, and More!

Sometimes there are just too many awesome and interesting things going on during the week, and we can’t comment on all of them. This is one of those times, and we have to hit you with a barrage of links to get ourselves and you all caught up.

A new Jessica Jones trailer that’s been pretty in line with everything else we’ve seen. This girl is a badass.

/Film has a story about how when Daredevil first came back to Marvel, Drew Goddard really wanted to do a movie.

Smash 4 had a pretty game changing patch, Gamenesia has all of the notes.

Genndy Tartakovsky is still trying to make a Samurai Jack movie happen.

See you in a week #Flash

ICYMI – The Jungle Book Trailer

We finally get a look at the live action remake of the classic 1967 movie The Jungle Book, lots of rumors have flown around about this movie and what it would be like but now we finally get a first look. Let’s check out The Jungle Book trailer.

First of all, let’s just talk about how pretty every damn shot looked in that trailer. Holy crap, as far as trailers go, that is some of the crispier effects I’ve seen. Couple this with the fact that none of this movie is shot on location, and all of the animals in this movie are created by CGI, I’m thoroughly impressed with just the look of the movie so far.

Next, let’s talk about that voice cast. Jesus, that is a stacked cast, and even though we only get to hear Scarlett Johansson’s voice, who was an interesting twist on Kaa the Python, I’d imagine there is a lot of great things to come with the rest of that voice cast.

I also love the little whistling at the end of the trailer. Now, depending on how you feel about Jon Favreau and his movies, and how you feel about remakes of classics, you may or may not like the trailer. Personally, I’m largely impressed with how good the movie looks, and am a fan of every actor in the cast except for Neel Sethi (who plays Mowgli), which I haven’t seen enough from to judge, so i’ll be watching and listening for news tidbits about The Jungle Book.

/Film also has a great recap of a twitter Q&A from Jon Favreau.

ICYMI – King Kong vs Godzila

King Kong vs Godzilla?

In case you missed it, King Kong has made his way to Warner Bros. studio. That same studio is home to Godzilla so an epic showdown is bound to happen.  There is no set date as each monster is starring in their respective films to be released in 2017 and 2018.

King Kong and Godzilla have fought in film before but that was in 1962.  With all the technological advancements in filming, the future film is sure to be a visual effects pleaser.

Barring all biological accuracies, Nerd Swole wonders who would emerge victorious.

Godzilla's Atomic Breath from the 2014 film

King Kong Breaking a T-Rex from the 2005 film.

In the 1962 film, both beasts fall off a cliff into the ocean and only King Kong emerges.  As the giant gorilla leaves, the Japan Self-Defense Forces speculates that Godzilla definitely survived.

ICYMI – Netflix Jessica Jones Premiere Announcement/Teaser

I’m sure plenty of us are going through withdrawal of some Marvel Netflix action with Daredevil being binged way back in April, but we’re finally getting the smallest look at what we might be getting from Jessica Jones. There is no footage, and it’s really trippy, but it is likely a hint at what types of things we’ll be seeing from the show. Let’s check out the Jessica Jones premiere announcement.

Well then. The word trippy certainly comes to mind after watching it. I personally think it’s really cool, I’m getting a lot of cool vibes from it, a little True Detective and a little Daredevil. If this is the opening theme, I’d be completely okay with that. I think the more you watch it the more cool little intricacies you notice, and I’m a big fan of that.

In terms of the show, I don’t know that this tells us much about the show other than we could possibly finally have a Marvel product that is more mystical/magical. Which would be a bit of a surprise seeing as Jessica Jones isn’t really that type of character. I guess we’ll have to wait until November 20th, 2015 to find out!
